10/2/2018 1 Comment The College of Holy CrossThursday, June 27th, I was headed to a state I'd never been to, to experience life as a student athlete. As it is the goal for many high school athletes, I strive to run D1, with the best of the best, improving each year. To begin my recruitment journey I traveled to The College of Holy Cross, in Worcester, Massachusetts, on what was my first official visit. Approximately 1000 mi. away from my home I was hoping to find a new home An official visit is when you go meet the coach, the team, and spend a few days as if you were a student athlete at your school of choice. It often includes you watching a few practices as well as observing some classes, to fully understand what it would be like to be a student at the school. What better way to see what the hectic life of a student athlete has to bring than living the life. This was my first official visit and I was excited, nervous and everything in between... I mean not to exaggerate but this was a BIG deal! Luckily for me my first visit was everything, including perfect! I feel in love with the team and school seconds after stepping foot on campus. I felt as if I was already part of the team, feeling right at home with the girls I had JUST met. But hey, they say that's when you know it's right, when you forget you are a recruit just "pretending" to be part of the team. Leaving the campus felt wrong to me, it almost felt as though i was leaving my home rather than going back. I couldn’t help but think how three days on campus with people I barely knew could feel so much like home. Unfortunately the answer never came to me, so I decided to shrug it off and just be happy that I found a school i'm head over heels for. I wait patiently at home for a letter, call, or email saying the coach wants me to become part of the team. For Coach A to say “Welcome to the team”, for me to have found the girls i will spend the next four years running with, who will push me farther than I've ever been pushed. Until then one can only hope everything works out the right way, which in my mind is going to Holy Cross. Watching the girls practice, those two day on the visit, just reassured me of my love for track, the way they cheered each other on, and pushed their bodies past the "comfortable" level, what more could someone want? Maybe just maybe, that will be my future home, but for now I have to finish studying for my favorite classes :)
